One big advantage of being a beard grooming blogger is that you get to meet lots of different brands and try out lots of different products.

So when the guys at Smith and Mason asked me to review their products, I jumped at the chance!

Read on to find out what I thought of their beard oil and balm.

Who are Smith and Mason?

Founded in 2017 by Melissa and Adam, they have built a reputation for producing hand crafted, organic beard care products, using ethically sourced ingredients from around the world.

For the purpose of this review, I was sent the following:

Here is my review of Smith and Mason’s beard products:

Beard oil

Where better to start than with beard oil? For me, it’s the most important part of any beard maintenance regime.

Smith and Mason’s product, has the right blend of ingredients to help keep your beard feeling and looking healthy. They include:

After using the oil for just over a week, I have to say it has lived up to expectations. My beard feels soft and looks healthy, plus I have had no problems with beard dandruff or itchiness.

However, in my personal opinion, I found that the tobacco oil scent was a little bit too overpowering. Of course other guys may prefer it, but I prefer scents that are a little more subtle.

Beard balm

When it comes to balm, I must admit that I am particularly fussy.

For starters, it has to be able to hold my beard in place. There is no point in styling it if it only lasts for a few hours at best.

Secondly, it also has to smell good, but not be too overpowering. There are plenty of times where I have walked past people and they have had such a strong perfume or cologne that it takes my breath away. That’s not a good thing by the way!

Put simply, Smith and Mason’s balm delivers massively on all fronts.

Although it contains the same tobacco oil blend as their beard oil, the scent is not overpowering whatsoever. It has a much sweeter smell which I put down to the use of coconut and olive oil in its ingredients.

Speaking of the use of coconut oil, this is a massive plus for me. I sometimes use it as an alternative to beard oil and it has proved to be a massive success in terms of keeping the skin underneath my beard moisturised and the hairs healthy. That is why I always look out for it as an ingredient when buying beard products.

What I also noticed about their beard balm was how soft in texture it is. Other balms I have used have been quite hard and because of this, it has left bits of it in my beard. Not a good look at all!

But Smith and Mason’s balm is quite the opposite. I would compare it to butter which for me is the perfect consistency. Soft enough to keep the hairs soft, but also strong enough to keep the beard styled. The perfect combination.
